SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 6-3 on Wednesday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
Doubles
The Saints captured two of the three doubles matches to open play. The No. 1 team of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won by a score of 8-4 for their second straight win. The No. 3 team of
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Giacomo Lucchesi (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) cruised to an 8-1 win.
Singles
Schneider improved to 7-0 at the No. 1 spot this season with a straight sets victory 6-3, 7-5. Schneider has won eight straight matches dating back to last season and is 19-4 in his career at the No. 1 position.
The Saints then showed their depth at the bottom of the lineup. At the No. 4 spot,
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) rallied to win in a third-set super-breaker 1-6, 6-2, (10-8). Lucchesi did not drop a game at the No. 5 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Bradley Golant (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS (Hearst-NOJHL)) took care of business at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-4.

The Saints (4-3, 2-0 UMAC) will make up a previously postponed contest with Bethany Lutheran College on Friday. The match will be played at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club beginning at 3 p.m.
