DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Senior pitcher Dallas Miller (Monticello, Minn./Big Lake HS) struck out 12 and allowed just two hits over 7.1 innings as the St. Scholastica baseball team won its third straight game with a 5-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior Monday at Wade Stadium.

How it Happened
After Miller struck out the side in the top of the first, the Saints began the bottom half with back-to-back singles from Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) and Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS). Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) then forced a walk to load the bases and Cody Venske (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) also induced a walk to bring in a run and make it 1-0.  Novak then scored on a Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) fielder's choice and Schemenauer scored on a Zach Harding (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 after one inning.

CSS then took advantage of a UWS error in the third inning when Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes CC)) doubled in Schelonka to make it 4-0.

The Saints had chances to extend the lead, but stranded runners at third in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. They also had a runner thrown out at the plate in the seventh.

In the meantime, Miller was dealing, as he did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and got out of a little trouble in the sixth. He would be lifted from the game with one out in the eighth. The base runner Miller was responsible for scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. St. Scholastica quickly got that run back in the bottom frame when Riley Ahrndt (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) scored on a Novak squeeze bunt.

UWS was able to scratch a run across in the ninth to make the final 5-2.
