DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team played games at Wade Stadium for the first time since the 2019 season and swept a non-conference doubleheader from Northland College on Sunday by scores of 12-1 and 11-1.

CSS 12, Northland 1
St. Scholastica's first three batters in the lineup all recorded three hits and Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) drove in three to take game one 12-1.

The Saints plated three runs in the first with RBIs coming from Zach Harding (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) and Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS). A Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) RBI single made it 4-0 after two innings. Grant Taival (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) held the LumberJacks (0-11) hitless through the first three innings, but Northland got one run across in the fourth to make it 4-1.

Like the first inning, Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) led off with a single and would eventually score on a Northland error. His run would be the first of seven in the inning for the Saints. Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) had a RBI single and then scored on a passed ball. Novak then ripped a bases loaded triple and Tautges followed with a RBI triple to make it 11-1. The final run of the game came off an Olson solo home run over the left centerfield wall in the fifth inning to make the final 12-1.

Taival scattered three hits and struck out five to earn the win for the Saints. Tautges, Schemenauer and Olson had three hits apiece.

CSS 11, Northland 1
The CSS offense spread out the scoring in game two, recording runs in five of the six batting innings to complete the sweep 11-1.

Like the first game, the Saints had three runs in the first inning. Tautges scored on a Northland error, Olson had a RBI double and Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes CC)) also had a RBI.

Tautges added a RBI triple in the second and then scored on a Schemenauer sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-0. Schemenauer drove in Tautges again in the fourth with a RBI single to make it 6-0.

St. Scholastica added three more runs in the fifth inning. A RBI by Harding and a two-run triple by Novak made it 9-0. Olson and Schelonka had RBIs in the sixth before Northland added a run in the seventh to make the final 11-1.

T.J. Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) pitched the first three innings to earn his first collegiate win, allowing just one hit in those three innings. Tautges and Schemenauer each had three hits with Tautges scoring three times.
