csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored a goal in each period, the problem was Marian University (Wis.) scored two goals in each period as the Sabres won game one of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup semifinals 6-3 on Friday.
How it Happened
The Saints scored less than two minutes into the game on a
Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) power-play goal.
Sam Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minot-NAHL)) and
Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) had the assists. Marian tied the score less than two minutes later and took a 2-1 lead midway through the period. Shots were tied at 12-12 after a period of play.
St. Scholastica again scored early in the second period with
Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) recording his 11
th of the season to make it 2-2.
Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) and
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) had the assists. Marian regained the lead with nine minutes left in the second period and then added a power-play goal with just over a minute remaining to make it 4-2 after two periods. Shots remained tied 23-23 with a period to go.
The Sabres extended the margin to three goals less than six minutes into the third period. A. Ledenkov added his second of the game late with the net empty and on the power-play. However, the Sabres found the open net moments later to make the final 6-3.
Goaltending
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) made 33 saves for the Saints, while Colby Muise had 30 saves for the Sabres.
Up Next
The Saints (7-7-0) will need to defeat the Sabres (9-7-0) in game two of the series tomorrow night (Saturday) with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
