How it Happened
Marian struck first, less than six minutes into the game, with a Jack Sampson goal to make it 1-0. That was the lone goal of the period, despite the Saints having a couple of quality scoring chances. The Sabres had a slight edge in shots 9-8.
Midway through the second period, the Saints took advantage of a double-minor penalty against the Sabres with senior

Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS (Minnesota Wilderness-NAHL)) and
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) were credited with the assists. However, Marian regained the lead with three minutes left in the period to make it 2-1 at the second intermission.
With nine minutes remaining, CSS tied the contest once again as
Brent Jones (Hartland, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS (Trine)) scored his first of the season with Talbot adding his second assist. It did not stay tied long however, the Sabres scored 51 seconds later to make it 3-2. St. Scholastica got good looks with the net empty late, but Marian hung on for the 3-2 victory.
