How It Happened
In a game that saw 74 minutes' worth of penalties on 15 infractions for each team, special teams played a big role in the Saints victory.
Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) got the Saints on the board early in the first scoring at the 6:14 mark of the first on the power play.
Ledenkov followed this up with two more power play goals in the second period for the hat trick.
Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) rounded out the second period scoring with yet another power play goal and only 24 seconds left on the game clock.
In the third period, Finlandia (1-5-0, 1-5-0 NCHA) thought they scored to narrow the gap, but the goal was called back because of a penalty away from the play.
Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) closed out the scoring with his first of the year to bring the final score to 5-0.
Goaltending
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) earned the shutout with 28 saves. Ben Kelsch stopped 22 of the 27 shots he faced for the Lions.
