Nordic Skiing to Host CCSA Championships this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica will host the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Nordic Ski Championships this weekend at the Grand Avenue Nordic Center.

Grand Avenue Nordic Center – Duluth, Minn.
 
When:
Saturday
Women's 5km Classic – 10 a.m.
Men's 10km Classic – 11:30 a.m.
Sunday
Men's 20km Freestyle – 9:30 a.m.
Women's 15km Freestyle – 11:30 a.m.

Note on Spectators:
-Due to restrictions, spectators are not permitted on the race course.  
 
Who's Participating:
-Collegiate skiers from Northern Michigan University, Michigan Tech University, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and The College of St. Scholastica
 
MEN'S CCSA POINTS | WOMEN'S CCSA POINTS
 
What You Need to Know:
-CSS last hosted the CCSA Championships in 2015, but only the relay and spring portions of the championships…This will be the first time it is hosting the traditional distance races.
-With the races canceled in Rhinelander, the last four races will be pivotal to see who qualifies for the NCAA Skiing Championships in Jackson, New Hampshire (See points at links above)
-All races will be interval starts
-Junior John Schwinghamer (Mora, Minn./Mora HS (South Dakota State)) ranks 10th in the CCSA and leads the CSS men having scored in all four CCSA point races up to this point.
-Sophomore Lars Dewall (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater HS) has scored in three of the four CCSA races.
-CSS expects the return of two-time national qualifier junior Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) this weekend for the CCSA Championships.
-Senior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) leads the CSS women's team into this weekend's championship and is ranked 12th in the conference.
-Benzing and junior Rana Kraftson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) have scored in three of the four CCSA races this season.
-The Saints also expect Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) to return to CCSA racing action this weekend after competing for the US Biathlon Team in Germany.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will take part in the Central Region Championships next weekend in Houghton, Michigan.
