Men’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten Behind Double-Double from Fischer

Notables

-Carlson goes over 20 points for the second straight game
-Silgen is the only Saint to score in double-figures in each of the first four games

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Despite not practicing much of the last week due to COVID-19 protocols, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team never trailed in a 72-60 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) victory over Crown College on Saturday.

How It Happened
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) scored six of the first eight points on the game for CSS and the Saints widened their lead with a 10-2 run seven minutes into the game. A Storm (2-5, 2-3 UMAC) run in the final five minutes of the first half cut the St. Scholastica lead to 30-26, but the Saints responded with seven straight points late in the half to take a 37-28 lead at the break. CSS shot 50% from the floor in the first half.

The CSS lead remained around 10 for much of the second half, until the Strom cut the margin down to six with five minutes to go. The Saints once again had a response, scoring the next nine points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line during that span to climb the lead back to 15 with two minutes remaining. The Saints went on to win by a final of 72-60.

Top Performers
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) had a game-high 22 points, recording 14 of those points in the second half alone. Fischer finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jack Silgen (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) added 15 points off the bench.

Up Next
The Saints (4-0, 3-0 UMAC) return to the Reif Gymnasium Thursday night where they will face Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at 7 p.m.
