DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team shot 62% in the second half and was led by Jack Silgen's (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) double-double in a 93-56 victory over Northland College Thursday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
 
How It Happened
The LumberJacks (0-5, 0-4 UMAC) led 8-4 after the first four minutes until the Saints went on an 8-0 run and would not trail the rest of the night. Northland did the tie the contest at 16-16 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half, but CSS went on a 13-0 run thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and another from Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS). The LumberJacks continued to battle and cut the margin to three late in the first half, but the Saints led 38-33 at the break.
 
CSS went to the free throw line 14 times in the first half, while Northland attempted just two free throws.
 
St. Scholastica opened the second half scoring the first 15 points to extend its lead to 20. Silgen had six points during that span. Northland's first field goal of the second half came six minutes into the half and it only made two field goals over the first 10 minutes of the half.
 
CSS continued to extend its lead and was up by as much as 40 late, before winning by a final of 93-56.
 
Top Performers
Silgen finished with a game-high 20 points and also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Winesett had a career-high 16 points, 11 of which coming in the first half. Craig Burger (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) finished with six assists.
 
Jordan Brennan finished with 11 points, all of which coming in the first half.
 
Up Next
The Saints (5-0, 4-0 UMAC) are back at home Saturday when they host Martin Luther College in the last scheduled home regular season game. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
