DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team hosted the Scots from Macalester College Wednesday night in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup. CSS had a seven-point lead at the half, but was outscored by 14 points in the second half, and ultimately fell 57-50.
How it Happened
CSS jumped out early with a bang, led by a pair of dunks by
Jack Silgen (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) to give the Saints an early 8-3 lead. Both teams had a difficult time finding the bottom of the net halfway through the half, with three minutes of play drained without a single basket. After the scoring drought,
Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) hit a 3-pointer to go along with a pair of free throws and
Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) scored a pair of layups to bring the Saints' lead to nine. CSS closed out the first half with a 3-pointer and a couple of layups by Silgen to give CSS a seven-point lead heading into the second half.
Macalester (4-5, 1-3 MIAC) opened up the second half with an early 7-0 run, which tied up the game.
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) made his presence felt not too much later after the run, scoring on a pair of baskets, which gave CSS a six-point lead with 12 minutes to play. Macalester began to put the pedal to the metal, going on a 17-6 run, which allowed them to control their own fate with a 53-48 lead with only a few minutes to play. The Saints only converted one field goal in the final six minutes, falling 57-50.
