NORTHFIELD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures, shot a season-high 54% from the floor, but still dropped its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) road contest at Carleton College on Saturday by a final of 96-90.

How It Happened
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) drained a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the game to give the Saints an early lead. CSS led for much of the opening seven minutes of play, but the Knights (6-2, 3-1 MIAC) went on a 7-0 run to take a five-point lead midway through the first half.

A Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) layup with three minutes left in the first half made the score 39-37. St. Scholastica committed three consecutive turnovers as Carleton went on a 9-0 run to extend to margin to 11. That would be the deficit after 20 minutes of action with the Knights up 50-39.

The Saints shot 63% from the floor in the half, but committed nine turnovers, which led to 12 Carleton points.

The Knights extended their lead to 21 with seven minutes remaining in the contest, but the Saints would battle back. CSS went on a 12-0 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes to make it a nine-point game with 2:30 remaining. Goggleye had eight straight points during that stretch.

Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) was fouled on a 3-pointer and made all three free throws to cut the margin to five with less than 20 seconds remaining, but that's as close as the Saints would get, falling 96-90.

Top Performers
Carlson led the five Saints in double-figures with 20 points, Jack Silgen (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) and Goggleye each added 18 points. Fischer finished with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) added 11 points.

Matt Banovetz and Luke Harris each scored 20 points to lead the Knights. Banovetz also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.
