SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored first on Friday, but Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior scored the next five in a 5-1 setback to conclude play at the Superior Showdown at Wessman Arena.
How it Happened
The lone goal of the first period came off the stick of
Karl Wright (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (Connecticut Nighthawks-USPHL)), who found the net with eight minutes remaining in the period to make it 1-0.
Will Fisher (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Boston Jr. Rangers-EHL)) and
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) had the assists.
The Yellowjackets (7-4-2) tied the contest at 1-1 three minutes into the second period. Superior took its first lead three minutes later and added a power-play goal at the end of the second period to make it 3-1 at the second intermission.
UWS added two more insurance goals in the final five minutes of the third period to make the final score 5-1.
Goaltending
Making his first collegiate start,
Oliver Quinn (Loudon, N.H./Merrimack Valley HS (Team Maryland-EHL)) had 26 saves for the Saints. Myles Hektor had 22 saves for the Yellowjackets.
