DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team got a pair of goals 25 seconds apart in the second period to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 4-1 non-conference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Saints struck first with nine minutes left in the opening period when
Brent Jones (Hartland, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS (Trine)) scored on the breakaway to make it 1-0.
Danylo Sukhonos (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Brovary Professional Lyceum (New York Aviators-USPHL)) and
Brodie Girod (Clavet, Saskatchewan/Clavet HS (Nipawin-SJHL)) had the assists. The Blue Devils (0-3-0) knotted things up at 1-1 with just over three minutes remaining in the first period as they scored on a breakaway short-handed. The score stood at 1-1 at the first intermission with shots tied at 9-9 as well.
St. Scholastica controlled the second period, outshooting Stout 16-5 in the period. However, the game remained tied until
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) skated in on the left and put one in off the goaltender to make it 2-1 with 3:28 left in the period.
Karl Wright (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (Connecticut Nighthawks-USPHL)) was credited with the assist. Just 25 seconds later,
Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) got behind the defense and extend the lead to 3-1 with another assist from Wright. It would be 3-1 at the second intermission.
The Blue Devils got a pair of power-plays in the third period, but could not do anything with them.
Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS (Minnesota Wilderness-NAHL)) put the game away with an empty-net goal with 1:25 left to make the final 4-1.
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) and
Brent Jones (Hartland, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS (Trine)) had the assists.
Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) made 20 saves to improve to 2-0-0 on the year. Tyler Masternak had 27 saves for the Blue Devils.
