DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored three goals in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit at the first intermission to defeat St. Olaf College 5-2 Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena in its inaugural Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest.
How it Happened
The Saints took an early lead when
Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) scored one minute into the contest. In remained 1-0, until St. Olaf would strike for a pair of goals 12 seconds apart in the final minute to take a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
It didn't take long for CSS to tie the contest in the second period as
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) netted his second of the season one minute into the period to make it 2-2.
Jon Hansen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) was credited with the assist.
The Saints retook the lead with five minutes to go in the second period as
Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS (Minnesota Wilderness-NAHL)) made it 3-2 with an assist from
Riley Bechard (Sedley, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Woodstock-MJAHL)). Just over a minute after that goal,
Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) added his second of the season to extend the CSS lead to 4-2.
Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) had the assist.
After St. Scholastica killed off six minutes of Ole power-plays in a 10-minute span, Adrian added his second of the evening on a Saints power-play with five minutes remaining in the third period to make the final 5-2. Hansen added his second assist on the goal.
Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) made 33 saves to improve to 4-0 this season, while Thomas Lalonde had 16 saves for the Oles.
