DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell behind 4-0, but made things interesting late in the second half, before the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire added one more goal to make the final 5-2 on Thursday at Saints Field.
How It Happened
The Blugolds (9-2-0) controlled much of the possession in the first half and got on the board in the 19
th minute with a goal off of a free kick. An own goal by the Saints made the halftime score 2-0.
The second half saw the Saints have the majority of possession and had plenty of scoring chances early.
Alex Dodd (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) had a free kick strike off the crossbar.
Moments later, Eau Claire added a pair of goals four minutes apart to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Saints kept fighting as
Neven Bajic (Jona, Switzerland/BWZ Rapperswil) scored his first collegiate goal in the 68
th minute to make it 4-1.
Miki Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)) had the assist.
Less than a minute later, Lumsden scored on a free kick to make it 4-2. The Saints then had a pair of opportunities to make things even more interesting, but missed the target on their attempts.
The Blugolds put things with penalty goal in the 85
th minute to make the final 5-2.
