csssaints.com) – On the first nordic competition day of the 2020 NCAA Skiing Championship at the Crosscut Mountain Sports Center, St. Scholastica sophomore
Emil Book Bratbak (Asgardstrand, Norway/Lillehammer) came in with the 25
th-fastest time in Thursday's 10km freestyle individual start to give the Saints six points for the championships. Junior
Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) came in 34
th place of the 39-skier field.
Book Bratbak
In order to post a team score, a skier must place in the top 30 an individual race. Book Bratbak, who finished 32
nd at last year's NCAA Championships in the 10km freestyle, improved by seven places to finish 25
th on Thursday.
After the first 5km circuit around the course, Book Bratbak was 29
th of the 39 skiers competing with a time of 12:24. On the final circuit, he had the 23
rd-best second lap with a split of 13:19. In total, Book Bratbak found himself in 25
th place overall with a time of 25:43.
Book Bratbak was fourth among Central Region skiers, just 16 second behind the top Central Region skier Kjetil Baanerud of Northern Michigan University, who was 20
th overall. He

was fourth among NCAA Division III skiers in the field.
Tamer
In his first national championship appearance, Mische-Richter was 36
th after the first loop with a time of 13:01. He climbed to the 32
nd-best time on the final lap with a split of 13:50. Mische-Richter would finish 34
th overall with a total time of 26:51.
He was the sixth-fastest Central Region skier of the seven competing. Remember, that Mische-Richter was the seventh-seeded Central Region skier entering the championships.
Champion
Ben Ogden of the University of Vermont won Thursday's 10km freestyle with a time of 23:50.
End of Season
Due to the announcement made by the NCAA on Thursday, Saturday's 20km classic race has been canceled, marking the end of the nordic ski season.
