SARTELL, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team earned three singles wins, but suffered two tiebreaker losses in doubles play as it fell to Saint John's University 6-3 late Tuesday night in non-conference play.
Doubles
The Johnnies (4-0) won all three doubles matches, but it wasn't easy. The No. 1 team of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") fell 8-7 (10-8) and at the No. 2 spot, the team of
Anton Sopin (Saratov, Russia/Gymnasium #8 (Tabor College)) and
Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) fell 8-7 (7-4).
Singles
Schneider won his fourth consecutive No. 1 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Junior
Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) prevailed at the No. 5 spot in a super-breaker 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, (10-7). The final match of the evening saw freshman
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) rally to earn the victory at the No. 6 spot 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), (11-9).
