Men’s Basketball to Host Northwestern in Regular Season Finale Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will welcome conference rival the University of Northwestern (Minn.) to the Reif Gymnasium on Saturday for the regular season finale.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints have won at least 10 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games for the fifth straight season, but for the first time since 2012-13 will finish outside the top three in the league.
-CSS will be the No. 4 seed for next week's UMAC Tournament.
-The Saints feature just one senior in Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), who they will honor on Saturday.
-Anderson currently ranks sixth in program history with 1,405 points. He needs 64 points to move into the program's top five.
-He ranks second in program history with 263 three-point field goals.
-Anderson has put up those numbers as a career sixth-man with just 11 starts over the last four seasons.
-By the way, Anderson leads the team in scoring this season at 15.2 points per game.
-The Saints continue to have five players averaging in double-figures in scoring; CSS has not finished a season with five players averaging in double-figures in scoring since the 1996-97 season.
-Over the last month, sophomore Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) has seen his season average increase from 9.9 points per game on January 22 to currently 11.9 points per game.
-Silgen has been held to less than 10 points just one time over the last 10 games.
-The same goes for sophomore Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) who was averaging 9.1 points per game on January 25 and is now at 11.3 points per game.
-Silgen and Fischer each average over seven rebounds per game, which ranks in the top six of the UMAC.
-Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) is a third sophomore averaging in double figures as the team's second-leading scorer at 14.7 points per game.
 
What You Need to Know about Northwestern:
Record: 18-6, 14-1 UMAC
-The Eagles are coming off a six-point road win at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday night in a battle of first place teams.
-In doing so, Northwestern clinched the No. 1 seed for next week's UMAC Tournament.
-The Eagles can clinch the UMAC regular season title outright with a win on Saturday.
-UNW has won 12 straight games since losing by eight points at home to Lawrence University (Wis.) in mid-December.
-Noah Alm is the team's leading scorer, averaging 18.1 points per game.
-Tanner Youngberg leads the conference and is the only player in the UMAC averaging a double-double at 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
-Northwestern is the best rebounding team in the conference with +5.0 margin per game.
-Michael Moore ranks second in the conference, averaging 4.8 assists per game.
-Also like a typical Northwestern team, it doesn't turn the ball over with a conference-low 10.5 turnovers per game and a conference-best 1.82 turnover margin and 1.52 assist-to-turnover ratio.
-The Eagles rank in the top 15 in NCAA Division III in both of those categories.

Series History: The Eagles defeated the Saints earlier this season down in St. Paul … CSS will be looking for its first home win over Northwestern since the 2016-17 season.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will host a UMAC Tournament First Round game Monday night at The Reif where they will take on fifth-seeded Crown College at 7 p.m.
