VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team picked up wins at the top two singles spots and at No. 1 doubles, but the University of St. Thomas won the other six matches in a 6-3 loss Sunday night at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.
Doubles
The No. 1 team of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") won 8-4 to get the Saints off to a good start. The Tommies (4-2), however, won the other two matches to take a 2-1 lead. The No. 2 team of
Anton Sopin (Saratov, Russia/Gymnasium #8 (Tabor College)) and
Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) dropped a tightly contested match 8-6.
Singles
After St. Thomas won the first singles match to finish, CSS won the next two as Schneider won at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-4 and Tykhonenko won at the No. 2 position 7-5, 6-3. The dual stood at 3-3 after those two finishes.
Unfortunately, the Tommies won the final three matches in straight sets to take the dual 6-3.
