DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team welcomed Finlandia University (Mich.) to The Reif on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup. The Saints would come out hot to start and never looked back winning the game 96-69.
 
How It Happened
The Saints jumped out of the gates with a 13-2 run with Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) and Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) scoring 11 of the 13. St. Scholastica would continue its offensive prowess gaining a 15-point lead six minutes into the game. Finlandia (0-17) created scoring opportunities and go on a 9-3 run in the next three minutes to trim the Saints' lead to 21-13. Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) entered the game and kick started an 18-5 run with 14 points by himself in the next four minutes to give the Saints a 21-point lead at 39-18. The last two minutes of the half would be controlled by Finlandia going on an 11-5 run to trim a large deficit to 15 going into the half with the Saints leading 50-35.
 
The Saints started the second half with consecutive threes by Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) and Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS). Carlson would also get to the free throw line to bring the St. Scholastica lead back to 21 at 58-37. Finlandia and St. Scholastica would trade buckets until 15-minute mark. The Saints had an 18-6 run started with Goggleye making a layup and a three. Goggleye would contribute eight points during the run to go up 80-49. The Saints would hold onto their comfortable lead and add to it the remainder of the half winning the game 96-69.
 
Top Performers
Anderson led the way for the Saints with 18 points. Goggleye followed with 13 points and four assists. Silgen and Fischer added 12 points each. Chance Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) chipped in a career-high 11 points. Carlson, Silgen, Fischer, and Ander Arnold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) brought down seven rebounds in the win.

The Saints (8-9) will close out their homestand with Alumni Weekend when they host Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon at The Reif. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
