DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team welcomed Bethany Lutheran College to The Reif for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Saints would come out strong with a seven point lead in the first half, but poor shooting in the second half would be the detriment as they fell 91-75.

How It Happened
The Saints started out the game with a small 6-2 deficit to the visiting Vikings, but would fight back to tie the game at 10-10 following a transition three by Craig Burger (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS). With the score 13-13, Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) entered the game and scored the next nine points for the Saints to gain a 22-15 lead.

CSS held the lead until Bethany tied the game up at 34-34 with five minutes remaining in the half. St. Scholastica would go on a short run themselves going up four but would face a stout Vikings defense that would bring a 41-40 lead in favor of Bethany Lutheran. The Vikings would get a three pointer with two minutes left in the half for the final field goal as Bethany held a 44-41 halftime advantage. Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) led the Saints with 15 points in the half.

A sluggish offensive start for both teams would be halted by a Carlson three pointer to tie the game up at 44-44 the half. The Vikings made a little gap between themselves and the Saints, leading by nine with 13 minutes to go. The Saints would struggle to get shots to go in with the Vikings making nine of the 11 shots they took in the next seven and a half minutes to get a strong 80-68 lead with six minutes remaining in the game. The offensive woes continued for the Saints making only two field goals in the final five minutes of the game. Bethany went on to win 91-75.

Top Performers
Carlson would led the Saints with 19 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds. Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) followed with 15 points and seven rebounds. Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) had 11 points and blocked four shots in the loss. Silgen added 10 points.
