Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team traveled to Northland College for a Wednesday night Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup. The Saints shot over 50 percent to earn their fifth conference win of the season 96-77.
 
How It Happened
The Saints would start out the first five minutes of the game gaining a 15-9 lead over the LumberJacks (4-11, 1-5 UMAC). Northland would make a small run to bring the game within four points, but the Saints would bring their lead back up to eight with just under 11 minutes left in the first half.
 
In the next six minutes the St. Scholastica lead increased to 12 points with Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) putting up eight points in the 11-5 run. The LumberJacks and Saints traded buckets the remaining five minutes of the half with Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) scoring eight of the Saints 12 points to go up 42-28. Anderson and Goggleye combined for 22 of the team's 42 first-half points.
 
CSS came out of the half on a 13-4 run in the first five minutes to go up 55-32. Northland responded with a 10-5 run in two and a half minutes to trim the Saints' lead to 59-42. The Saints answered with a 16-10 run in the next three minutes to increase their lead to 25 at 75-50. Neither team would grab any strong offensive momentum the remainder of the half with St. Scholastica rolling past Northland 96-77.
 
Top Performers
Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) and Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) recorded double-doubles with Silgen recording 15 points and 12 rebounds and Fischer with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Anderson also added in 15 points. Fischer would also be the game's leader in assists with five. Goggleye had a season-high 13 points, going 5-for-5 from the field.

The Saints (7-8, 5-2 UMAC) will begin a three-game home span with a big rivalry game against Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.  at The Reif.
