Marian Completes the Sweep over Men’s Hockey

Notables
-All eight goals were even-strength

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team lost its fourth straight game to begin 2020 with a 6-2 loss at Marian University (Wis.) on Saturday to conclude the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) North Division series.

How It Happened
The Saints out-shot the Sabres 12-7 in the first period, however after CSS killed a Marian power-play, the Sabres (10-4-1, 6-4-0 NCHA) scored an even-strength goal moments later to take a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

The game got away from the Saints in the first 10 minutes of the second period as the Sabres scored three goals in the span of three minutes and 22 seconds to make it 4-0.

After a Marian goal to start the third period, CSS got on the board on a Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) tally. Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) had the assist. Rose would strike the pipe two other times in the contest. Later the Sabres added another goal, but 40 seconds after that Pionk lit the lamp with Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) getting the assist to make the final 6-2.

Goaltending
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) made nine saves in 26 minutes of action, while Jack Branby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS (Winnipeg Blues-MJHL)) had 21 saves in 34 minutes of relief. Hunter Vorva had 31 saves for Marian.
