Men’s Soccer Concedes Second Half Goal in Defeat

Notables
-The Saints have yet to score away from Saints Field
-Six of the seven CSS goals allowed this season have come in the second half

DUBUQUE, Iowa (csssaints.com) – For the second consecutive day, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell by a 1-0 score with the University of Dubuque this victors on Sunday thanks to a PK goal in the 74th minute.

How it Happened
Like three of the first four games this season, the Saints played a scoreless first half. The Spartans (3-1-0) put three shots on goal in the half, but Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) stopped them all.

Bulheller made two more saves in the second half, but the Spartans would draw a foul in the box in the 74th minute to set up a penalty kick. Joshua Merkel would bury the PK to give Dubuque the 1-0 advantage.

The Saints would get a couple of corners in the final five minutes, but nothing came of it in the 1-0 defeat.

Up Next
The Saints (0-4) are back at home on Wednesday when they welcome Macalester College to Saints Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
