Football Travels to Missouri for First Road Game

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After staring the season with a three-game home stand, the St. Scholastica football team will head out to Missouri and play their first game of the season away from Duluth against Westminster College (Mo.).

What You Need To Know about St. Scholastica: 
-The Saints open the season at 3-0 for the first time since 2014, when the rattled of 10 wins in the regular season to have a perfect record of 10-0.
-The Saints were able to hold off Crown, as Crown had 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to make it a three-point game. The Saints defense was able to shut it down on the last drive of the game.
-Zach Edwards (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) for the Saints only had to throw for 231 yards. but threw for four touchdowns. He also scored a touchdown on the ground.
-Eddie Lee (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) combined for 14 catches for 121 yards, both coming down with two touchdown grabs.
-The Saints defense combined for four sacks on the day and 10 tackles-for-loss.
-CSS had the ball over 18 less minutes than Crown on Saturday night, the largest TOP disparity since the Martin Luther loss last year.
-The Saints are 10-for-10 in the red zone thus far, one of 26 teams in NCAA Division with a perfect red zone percentage this point in the season.
 
Players to Watch on Offense: 
-Quarterback Zach Edwards (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) – Edwards broke yet another record for the Saints, this time it was total touchdown responsible for, Edwards now with 78. He currently ranks third in the nation with 98 points responsible for this season. He also set the record for most offensive yards now with 6950.
-Wide receiver Eddie Lee (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) – Lee continues to haul in grabs for the Saints. He led the offense with eight receptions on Saturday with eight, totaling 78 yards and two scores. He became the eighth receiver in program history to go over 1,100 yards receiving in a career last week. Lee needs seven receptions to become the fifth player to register 100 in a career.
-Wide receiver Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) – Adrian also continues to be a 1-2 threat with Lee. He hauled in six receptions for 43 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints still trying to mix him into the run game, he had five carries last week.
 
Players to Watch on Defense: 
-Defensive lineman Cal Germain (Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) – Germain had two sacks on Saturday, but none bigger than the fourth-and-seven stop that sealed the win. He leads the team with four sacks, recording one in at least every contest.
-Linebacker Chase Kleppe (Orr, Minn./North Woods HS) – Kleppe, the freshman, led the team with 12 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss. Kleppe now leads the team with 34 tackles on the season.
-Defensive Back Jake Kukowski (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) – Kukowski, the freshman from Aitkin, recorded three pass breakups in the win over crown. That was more in that game than any Saint has had all season.
 

What You Need to Know about Westminster:
Record: 1-2, 1-0 UMAC
 
-After losing their first two games of the season in non-conference matchups, the Blue Jays won their UMAC opener against Iowa Wesleyan 35-7 last Saturday.
-The Blue Jays held Iowa Wesleyan to 73 total yards, including -1 rushing yards.
-In the win, Westminster threw for 172 yards, and added in 151 on the ground. Though the Blue Jays fumbled four times and threw an interception.
-Sophomore Wyatt Ellis was 20-for-34 for 172 yards and a touchdown.
-Ellis leads all conference quarterbacks completing 60 percent of his pass attempts.
-Sophomore DeQuintin Smith got the lion's share of the carries for Westminster getting 30 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. Ellis ran for 68 yards and added two touchdowns with his feet.
-Junior running back Kalyn Davis averaged 73.5 yards rushing per game thru the first two games, but did not play last week.
-Wide receiver Travion Mosby had 12 receptions for 125 yards and a score.
-Mosby ranks second in the conference behind Adrian, averaging 7.3 receptions per game.
-The Westminster defense has allowed only 55.3 rushing yards per game, which leads all UMAC teams and ranks 21st in NCAA Division III.
-Sophomore linebacker Logan Decker leads the defense with 14 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Decker also had an interception for a touchdown last week.
-Westminster was voted to finish fifth in the UMAC coaches' poll.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 9-0 (Last Meeting: 23-20 CSS – 9/22/2018) 
 
Series History: CSS in undefeated all time against Westminster, four of the nine wins have been within one score, including three of the last five meetings … This will be the first time the two teams have met in Missouri since 2016 … The average margin of victory in the four CSS wins in Fulton has been just 6.8 points.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will be back at home, this time taking on the reigning UMAC champions, Martin Luther College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Public Schools Stadium.
