The Saints football family received the sad news over the weekend that former head coach Greg Carlson passed away on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at the age of 77. Greg was the first football coach in St. Scholastica's history. He was hired in 2007 and Saints football played their first-ever game the following season in 2008. He built the Saints program from the ground up, compiling a 39-22 career record, including a 32-9 record in conference play, and led the program to three straight conference championships in the UMAC from 2011-2013, after which he retired from coaching. Greg was inducted to the St. Scholastica Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 and his 2011 team was inducted in 2024. His football teams have also had a number of his individual players inducted into the Hall, as well.
Many hundreds of young men had their lives positively impacted during Greg's 30-year-long head coaching career not just at St. Scholastica but at Whittier and Wabash before that. Greg was a mentor and will be missed by all who knew him. His loss is a great one. The St. Scholastica Athletics Department extends its condolences to Greg's family and to all of the extended Saints football family members affected by Greg's passing.
