Women’s Tennis Welcomes Martin Luther Saturday to Virginia

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team will host Martin Luther College in Virginia on Saturday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match.

-Senior Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) leads the team with 11 singles victories.
-The No. 1 doubles team of Rice and Sara Wennerstrand (Baxter, Minn. /Brainerd HS (Saint Benedict)) has a team-high eight doubles wins.
-Wennerstrand and Brynne Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) also have 10 singles wins.

Record: 3-10, 1-3 UMAC
-The Knights snapped a five-match losing streak with a non-conference win at the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday.
-The other two wins for Martin Luther have come against North Central University (Minn.).
-The reigning UMAC Player of the Year Anna Hemmelman is 9-4 at No. 1 singles.
-Tatum Bollmeier has six wins at the No. 6 spot.
-Hemmelman and Morgan Shevey are 5-5 at the No. 1 doubles position.
-MLC is picked to finish fourth in the UMAC this season.

-The Blugolds won their final six matches in the fall to finish second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) standings.
-They then won their first four matches in the spring before dropping three straight at the end their spring trip.
-UWEC is coming off a 7-2 victory over the University of Minnesota-Duluth last Friday.
-Eau Claire is ranked No. 15 in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
-The Blugolds are led by Natalie Wijesinghe, who is ranked No. 15 in the Central Region in singles.
-Wijesinghe and Emily Cooper are ranked No. 10 in the region in doubles.
 
Series Record: Tied 6-6 (Last Meeting: 5-4 CSS – 4/10/2016)
 
Series History: Each of the last two wins in the series for the Saints have come at Eau Claire.
