WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team had a chance of taking its dual with Bethel University Friday night, but fell by a final of 6-3 at the Lifetime Fitness.
Doubles:
The Saints would win just one of the two doubles matches as the No. 1 team of
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and
Rafa Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/FESA) won their match 8-5.
Singles:
Needing to win four singles matches, Tykhonenko did his part by winning at the No. 1 spot 6-3 6-2. He is now 2-0 thus far in singles play.
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would also be victorious at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-3. The Royals (3-0) won in straight sets at the No. 4 and 5 spots.
However, the Saints had chances to win the other two matches and take the dual.
Gonzalez dropped his first set 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, but responded to win the second set 6-3 to force a third set. Gonzalez, unfortunately, would lose his second singles match of the season in a tight third-set super-breaker 10-8.
Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) at the No. 6 spot won his first set 6-3, but dropped the second set 6-0 and then the super-breaker 10-4 as Bethel took the dual 6-3.
