csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Marian University (Wis.) Friday night to see its hopes of making the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) playoffs dashed.
The Scoring
The first period looked as if it were going to be scoreless as it stood at 0-0 with one minute left. But Marian (12-8-4, 10-5-2 NCHA) was able to find their first of the night in the final 45 seconds. Marian then went on the power play after scoring and were able to find their second goal of the night with five seconds left in the period.
The Saints had to go on the penalty kill three times in the second period and had to go 5-on-3 for a minute and 18 seconds. They also had two power play opportunities of their own, but the second period ended scoreless for both teams.
The Saints had two more power play opportunities in the beginning of the third period and were able to find a goal during the second power play to make it 2-1 with less than 12 minutes remaining. In the last 1:37 of the game, the Saints pulled their goalie in search of an equalizer, but 24 seconds into the empty net, the Sabres were able to score again and make the final 3-1.

Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) scored the lone goal for the Saints.
Sam Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minot-NAHL)) and
Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) were credited with the assists.
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced in goal for the Saints.
Top Performers for the Sabres
Dylan Hutton, Clay Cross, and Blaine Caton each contributed goals for the Sabres. Hunter Vorva saved 30 of the 31 shots he faced in net.
