HOUGHTON, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica's
Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) entered Sunday in the final NCAA qualifying position and held off his closest competitors to finish third in the Men's 20km Classic race of the NCAA Central Region Championships.

Book Bratbak had to hold off Patrick Action of Michigan Tech University and teammate
Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) for the final qualifying spot in the region. He responded in a big way finishing on the podium with a third-place finish in a time of 1:13:40. He is the third Saint to finish on the podium at a region championship. He is also the second Saint in as many years to earn multiple all-region honors in his first collegiate ski season.
The CSS skier that did that last year was Mische-Richter, who finished sixth on Sunday with a time of 1:14:09. For the second straight year, Mische-Richter put together multiple all-region performances joining the likes of Paul Schommer and
Reitler Hodgert to accomplish that feat.
Nick Matelich (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman HS (Montana State)) beat out
Hannes Stenstrom (Are, Sweden/Are Skidgymnasium) for the final scoring spot for the Saints, finishing 11
th with a time of 1:15:42. Stenstrom was 12
th and
Jack Christianson (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) 13
th.
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University did not have their top skiers competing, so Michigan Tech won the day with 96 points. Michigan Tech's Kristoffer Vollset won the event with a time of 1:13:10. Northern Michigan was second with 89 points and the Saints finished third with 83 points.
Northern Michigan won the weekend with 197 points, Michigan Tech was second with 178 points and the Saints third with 161 points.
