ISHPEMING, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's ski team had three freshmen skiers place in the top 10 on Saturday in the 20km classic race of the Northern Michigan University Qualifier at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
Top Performers
It was once again a battle between first-year skiers
Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) and
Nick Matelich (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman HS (Montana State)) for the top spot on the team. Book Bratbak just edged Matelich at the line for seventh place overall with a time of 58:38.2. Matelich's time was 58:38.7.
The final Saint to score was freshman
Hannes Stenstrom (Are, Sweden/Are Skidgymnasium) in 10
th place overall with a time of 58:40. That is the first time this season Stenstrom has scored for the team and his second straight top-10 finish.
Jack Christianson (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) was 11
th overall, two seconds behind Stenstrom.
Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) was 13
th and
Samuel Olson (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) 17
th to round out the top-20 skiers for the Saints.
Team Finishes
The host, Northern Michigan, won the event as a team with three skiers in the top four. Zak Ketterson led everyone with a winning time of 55:57. Michigan Tech University was second with 86 points and the Saints finished with 74 points in third.
