DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team could not have the same fortune as the women's team on Saturday, falling to Macalester College 5-4 at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
Doubles:
The Saints got off to a great start in the dual, winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and
Rafa Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/FESA) won 8-4 and the No. 2 duo of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won 8-1.
CSS almost swept all three matches, but fell in the tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot 9-8 (7-4).
Singles:
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. The Scots (3-0) showed their depth by winning at the No. 4-6 spots.
Tykhonenko suffered his first loss of 2019 at the No. 1 spot after losing first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) and then 6-2 in the second set.
The only two Saints to win were Schneider at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1 for this third straight victory and Gonzalez at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-3 for his second straight win.

The Saints (1-3) return to action next Sunday when they face Concordia College-Moorhead in Fargo.
