ADRIAN, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team fended off four power-plays in the first period on Friday night en route to a 3-2 victory, but could not fend off being out-shot 24-6 on Saturday as the Saints fell behind by four goals at the first intermission and ultimately fell to No. 6 Adrian College (Mich.) 5-1 on Saturday to finish with a series split.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs (7-2-1, 6-2-0 NCHA) scored three goals in the first eight minutes and led 4-0 after one period. The CSS penalty-kill did its job again, however, holding Adrian scoreless on three opportunities in the period.
The Saints got on the board 13 seconds into the second period with a
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) power-play goal to make it 4-1.
Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) and
Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) had the assists.
It remained 4-1 until the final two minutes when the Bulldogs would get their first power-play goal of the weekend to make the final 5-1.
Goaltending
After making 50 saves on Friday night,
Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) finished with 42 saves on Saturday. Nic Tallarico had 20 saves for the Bulldogs.
