Men’s Basketball Sets Program Record in Win over Crown

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team shot 61 percent from the floor and set a single-game program record for points in a 120-79 victory over Crown College on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
 
How It Happened
The Saints would begin the game with a strong 10-2 run in the first two minutes of the game. Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) came up with seven points in the run. Crown (1-7, 0-2 UMAC) began to make a run of their own, but the Saints would shoot 5-for-5 from the field in the next two minutes to keep their lead at 18-9. Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) controlled the paint adding in six quick points during the run.
 
St. Scholastica kept it rolling on the offensive end scoring seven straight points within one minute to go up 25-9 with a little under 15 minutes remaining in the half. St. Scholastica would keep their hot shooting going for the remainder of the half with their smallest lead being nine points. The Saints would shoot 58 percent from the field in the half with their lead extending to 53-37 going into the break.
 
CSS started out the first five minutes of the second half trading buckets with Crown only being able to gain a three-point extension on their lead going up 67-48. The Saints would then go on a 17-9 run in the next four minutes to go up 82-57. The offensive onslaught would continue for the Saints going on another 21-8 run in the next five minutes, Carlson and Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) would combine for 15 points during the run to increase their lead to 100-65.
 
St. Scholastica would bring in the remaining bench players for the final six minutes of the game. Ander Arnold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) would come off the bench and score 10 quick points to bolster the lead to 110-71 with 3:40 remaining the second half. The Saints would get 10 more points from bench players to win the game 120-79, breaking the record for most points in a single game in school history.
 
Top Performers
The Saints were led offensively by Carlson with a game-high 24 points. Silgen and Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) added 21 and 20 points, respectively. Wilken added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Anderson and Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) added six assists each.

The Saints (3-5, 2-0 UMAC) will travel across the bridge to Superior on Wednesday night for a UMAC matchup against the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
