LAS VEGAS, Nev. (csssaints.com) – Ramapo College (N.J.) made a pair of free throw with less than three seconds remaining to defeat the St. Scholastica men's basketball team 73-71 late Sunday night to conclude action at the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Hotel & Casino.

How It Happened
The Saints jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on the Roadrunners (5-7). CSS maintained the advantage and went on a 9-0 run midway thru the first half to extend its lead to 12. However, the Roadrunners responded with a 9-0 run of their own make it 27-24 with eight minutes left in the first half.

St. Scholastica kept the lead until the final minute of the half as Ramapo scored the final six points and the Saints trailed for the first time 38-37 at the break. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but Ramapo had a big edge in paint points at 30-12.

The Roadrunners slowly extended the lead in the second half, leading by 13 points twice. An Ander Arnold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) three-point-play cut the deficit to 62-55 with seven minutes remaining. However, Ramapo grew its lead back to double digits and a layup made it a 10-point game with three minutes left.

That layup would be the Roadrunners final field goal of the game. Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) responded on the next possession with a 3-pointer make it 71-64. Following a Ramapo shot clock violation, CSS grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds and Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) drained another 3-pointer to cut the margin to four with 1:30 remaining.

Following the 3-pointer, the Roadrunners were assessed a technical foul for their second flopping violation of the contest. Anderson proceeded to drain the two technical free throws to make the score 71-69.

Ramapo went on to miss a 3-pointer on the next possession, but the Saints turned it over right back and CSS would be forced to foul. The Roadrunners would miss the front end of a one-and-one and the Saints had a chance to tie or take the lead. Anderson found Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) for a lay-up to tie the game at 71-71 with five seconds left.

However, the Saints then committed a foul in the backcourt and the Roadrunners went on to make both free throws to regain the lead at 73-71. A last chance desperation heave by Anderson fell short as Ramapo prevailed 73-71.

Top Performers
Carlson and Anderson each had 17 points to lead the Saints. Anderson also had four steals. Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) added 13 points and team-high seven rebounds.
