NEW ULM, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team began Wednesday night's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup by scoring the first seven points and would never trail in an 82-61 victory at Martin Luther College.
How It Happened
The game started with a pair of free throws by
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS), followed by a 3-pointer from
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) and then a jumper from
Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) to give the Saints an early 7-0 lead. Later in the first half,
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) scored eight straight points to make it 19-10 CSS. The Saints led by as many as 13 before ending the first half with a 32-22 advantage.
The Knights (2-9, 0-4 UMAC) kept within striking distance for the first nine minutes of the second half, before the Saints slowly widened the gap.
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) and
Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) helped extend the CSS lead as the Saints went on to pull away from MLC for an 82-61 victory.
Top Performers
Anderson had a game-high 20 points to lead the Saints. He scored 15 of those 20 points in the first half. Carlson had 12 points in the second half to finish with 16 points for the game. Silgen also had 12 points in the second half to finish with 14 points. Silgen also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Wilken finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints (5-8, 3-2 UMAC) will be at the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday for another UMAC matchup. Tip time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
