LAS VEGAS, Nev. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team shot 68 percent from the field and made 11, 3-pointers in the first half before holding off Central College (Iowa) in the second half to win 94-84 late Friday night in the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Hotel & Casino.
How It Happened
The Dutch (4-6) would lead 16-13 with less than 14 minutes remaining in the first half. However, over the next six minutes, the Saints outscored Central 26-6 with an 8-0 run and a pair of 9-0 runs within that span.
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) had 11 points and
Joe Cvancara (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) adding nine points during that time frame.
CSS kept it rolling with another 10-0 run later in the half to open up its biggest lead of the game at 51-27 following a
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) bucket. The Saints went into halftime leading 60-41. Anderson had a big first half for the Saints going 10-for-11 from the field, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc for 25 points.
The Dutch would make a run in the second half, after CSS made the first bucket of the half, Central responded with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 12. After CSS extended the lead back to 16, Central went on a 14-0 run to make it a 73-71 game with less than eight minutes to go.
The Saints then got big buckets from
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) to maintain the CSS lead and extend it back to seven with five minutes left. A
Craig Burger (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) 3-pointer made it 86-74 with 3:30 to go. Central would not go away, scoring seven straight points in the span of just over 90 seconds to cut the CSS lead back to four with 1:15 remaining.
However, the Saints scored the final six points of the contest with
Ander Arnold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) recording five of those points as the Saints prevailed 94-84.
Top Performers
Anderson finished with a game-high 31 points in 31 minutes of action. Wilken finished with 20 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Cvancara finished with nine points, going 4-for-4 from the field.

The Saints (4-7) will face Ramapo College (N.J.) on Sunday to conclude play at the D3hoops.com Classic. Action is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. (PT).
