DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – Concordia University Wisconsin scored five goals in the final 30 minutes of action to complete the two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NHCA) sweep of the St. Scholastica men's hockey team 7-2 on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
For the third consecutive game, the Saints would score first with
Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) scoring his first goal of the season just 53 seconds into the contest.
Max Mettler (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Minot-NAHL)) had the assist.
The Falcons (3-1-0, 2-0-0 NCHA) would tie the game with a power-play goal late in the first period to make it 1-1 at the first intermission.
Concordia took its first lead five minutes into the second period to make it 2-1. The Saints responded with
Karl Wright (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (Connecticut Nighthawks-USPHL)) finding the net to tie the contest at 2-2.
Boe Bjorge (Grand Forks, N.D./Grand Forks Central HS (Thief River Falls-SIJHL)) and
Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) had the assists.
The Falcons then scored a pair of goals within 46 seconds of each other to regain the lead at 4-2. CUW added another power-play goal in the final two minutes of the second period to make it 5-2. CSS was out-shot 16-7 in the period.
Concordia then added two third period goals to make the final score 7-2.
Goaltending
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) made his first start of the season and made 23 saves. Freshman
Jack Branby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS (Winnipeg Blues-MJHL)) also made his first collegiate appearance in the third period and had 12 saves. Bo Didur had 32 saves for the Falcons
