DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – Loras College (Iowa) finished the game on a 33-12 run over the final 10 minutes to defeat the St. Scholastica men's basketball team 88-67 on Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium.
How it Happened
The Saints opened up an early eight-point lead on the Duhawks (4-1) with a 7-0 run. CSS maintained a narrow edge until the eight-minute mark of the first half. However, a
Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) 3-pointer, followed by a
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) 3-pointer gave the Saints a 26-23 edge.
Following a
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) 3-pointer with five minutes remaining in the half, Loras scored eight straight points to take a 36-31 lead. A
Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) layup and
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) 3-pointer closed the half out as the score stood at 36-36 at halftime. Carlson led the Saints with 10 points at the half.
Craig Burger (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) opened the second half with a 3-pointer to give the Saints a three-point lead. A little later, a Wilken 3-pointer and a Carlson layup made it 44-40 CSS, three minutes into the second half. The Duhawks responded with seven straight points to regain the lead.
Later in the half, Anderson scored five straight points to tie the contest at 55-55 with 11 minutes remaining. However, Loras went on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 69-57 lead. The Duhawks then put the game away with a 12-0 run with four minutes to go as the Saints fell 88-67.
Top Performances for CSS
Wilken led four Saints in double figures with 14 points. He also had a team-high six rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Carlson and Anderson each added 13 points, while Silgen finished with 10 points.
Top Performances for Loras
JT Ford had a game-high 20 points to lead the Duhawks. Jordan Boyd added 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Cole Navigato had 16 points in the second half.
