DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated by No. 15 University of St. Thomas Wednesday night 110-64 in non-conference action at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
The Saints would get going offensively with an and-one by
Chance Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) one minute into the game to go up 3-2. St. Scholastica would stay even with the Tommies (2-1) with another and-one by
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) followed by a
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) jumper to get the score tied up at 10-10. Anderson would be fouled on a three pointer and make all three free throws then make a three on the next possession to give the Saints a 16-10 lead. A Larson layup would give the Saints their biggest lead at 18-10 before a furious 18-5 St. Thomas run in the next six minutes.
St. Scholastica would trail 28-23 before
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) would get a layup to bring the Saints back within three at 28-25. The Tommies finished the half with a 25-11 run shooting 81 percent from the field. The halftime score would be 53-35 with St. Thomas holding a controlling lead.
The Saints would run out of firepower in the second half only being able to score five points in the first five minutes of the half in comparison to St. Thomas' with 17.St. Scholastica would get an offensive spark from
Ander Arnold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) with 10 points in his first three minutes on the court, but there would not be a comeback for the Saints as they fell 110-64.
Top Performers
The Saints offense was led by
Jack Silgen (Crosby, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) with 11 points. Arnold would follow with 10 points. Wilken was one point and one rebound away from his second double-double of the season. Anderson and Carlson assisted on three buckets in the loss.
