Men’s Basketball to Host St. Thomas Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team is back at the Reif Gymnasium Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup with 15th-ranked University of St. Thomas.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints are coming off an 82-77 setback at Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday.
-Senior guard Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led the Saints with 34 points in the losing effort, which was his fourth 30-point game of his career.
-The Saints shot a season-best 47 percent from the floor and made a season-high 19 free throws on Saturday.
-CSS has lost the first three games of the season six of the last eight years, including each of the last three years, but have accumulated 33 victories the last two seasons.
-Junior Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) leads the team, averaging 17.0 points per game through the first three games.
-He is also averaging a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game.
-Sophomore Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) is the only other Saint to have scored in double-figures each of the first three games.
-First-year point guard Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) had a 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks 50th in NCAA Division III.
-CSS has been out-rebounded by an average of 12.7 board per game.
 
What You Need to Know about No. 15 St. Thomas:
Record: 1-1, 0-0 MIAC
-The Tommies made a trip to the Pacific Northwest to open their season and knocked off 21st-ranked Whitman College (Wash.), but then fell to Whitworth College (Wash.).
-St. Thomas is ranked 15th in the preseason D3hoops.com poll.
-The Tommies are picked to finish second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season.
-They are the reigning MIAC regular season champions and reached the Sweet 16 of the national tournament a season ago.
-Anders Nelson was named the D3hoops.com Freshman of the Year last season.
-Nelson is averaging 19.5 points per game in the first two games this year with no other Tommie averaging in double-figures.
-St. Thomas has made an average of 20.5 made free throws per game after two contests.

Series History: The Tommies and Saints have played each of the last three seasons with the Tommies winning by an average margin of 22.7 points per game … This will be St. Thomas' second trip to the Reif.
