Garcia’s Goal in Double OT Gives Men’s Soccer the Win over Hamline

Notables
-CSS' first overtime win since September of 2013
-CSS' first non-conference win of the season
-Garcia's second goal in the last three games

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Scoring chances were limited for both teams on Sunday at Saints Field, but the St. Scholastica men's soccer team had an opportunity in the final five minutes of the second overtime and freshman Franco Garcia (Minneapolis, Minn./Hiawatha Collegiate HS) delivered to give the Saints the 1-0 victory over Hamline University.

How it Happened
The 90 minutes of regulation went by with both teams combining to put only seven shots on goal.

The Pipers (3-6-1) had a great scoring chance in the first minute of the first overtime, but the shot went wide. The game appeared to be headed to a scoreless draw until the Saints' Nolan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) charged up field and put the first shot on goal of the overtime periods.

Friday's shot would be stopped, however, the ensuing goal kick found the feet of Taylor Tran (Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills Charter HS) at midfield who then proceeded to play a ball back over the backline of the Piper defense and found Garcia, who settled it off his body and with one flick of his right foot, snuck it inside the far post to give the Saints the 1-0 win in the 106th minute.

Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) made five saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season.

Up Next
