DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team welcomed Martin Luther College for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Friday afternoon. The Saints would play a strong defensive game by only giving up three shots to the Knights. Two second half goals would propel the Saints to a 2-0 win over the Knights on a chilly day at Saints Field.
How It Happened
The Saints came out with a strong offensive showing in the first half with tough shots put on goal by
Ken Pryde (Fareham, England/Barton Peveril College),
Joe Smith (Morpeth, England/King Edwards VI School), and
Malcolm Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)). Unfortunately, the shots would be saved by the Martin Luther goalkeeper. The Saints would hold the offensive zone for most of the half, but neither team would be able to get any points on the board. The Saints would take 12 shots in the half with Martin Luther only being able to take two.
St. Scholastica would be able to get on the board early in the second half with
Nolan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) getting the goal in the 64
th minute of the game. The Saints would remain strong on the defensive side of the ball only allowing one shot in the second half. In the 83
rd minute of the game, a free kick just outside of the box would be kicked by
Alex Dodd (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) that would be put into the goal for the second and final goal of the game.
Top Performers
Dodd and Friday would lead the way for the Saints for goal scoring with one apiece.
Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) had a very easy game in goal with only needing to record one save in the shutout. The Saints outshot the Knights 24-3 and with shots on goal at 13-1.

The Saints (5-11, 5-1 UMAC) will welcome Hamline University Sunday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. The game will be played at Saints Field with a 3 p.m. start time scheduled.
