Gilman and Matelich Compete in Freestyle Distance Races

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. (csssaints.com) – Junior Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) and freshman Nick Matelich (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman HS (Montana State)) were the lone St. Scholastica nordic skiers competing on Sunday in the freestyle distance races at the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.
 
Matelich, who has led the Saints in each of the first two events at the U.S. Championships, competed in Sunday's men's 30km race and would finish 74th in a time of 1:33:09. Kjetil Banerud of Northern Michigan University led the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) contingent with an 18th place finish in a time of 1:20:59.
 
Gilman was part of the women's 20km race and finished 60th overall with a time of 1:08:53. Nicole Schneider of Northern Michigan led the way for CCSA racers with an 18th place finish in a time of 1:02:57.
