Men’s Hockey to Play Home-and-Home with Northland

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The 10th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team will travel to Ashland, Wisconsin on Friday then return home on Saturday in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series matchup with Northland College.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints come into 2019 still ranked No. 10 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 11 in the D3hockey.com poll.
-They also come into the New Year second in the North Division, one point behind Marian University with a game in hand.
-They ended 2018 losing two of their last three, both to ranked opponents. No. 5 Augsburg University, and No. 13 Marian.
-In the Superior Showdown last weekend, five different Saints scored six goals. Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) scored two in the win over University of Wisconsin-Superior, his first career multi-goal game.
-The Saints totaled 73 shots in the split weekend.
-Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) got his first start of the year on Sunday and turned in a career high 44-save effort and was rewarded the NCHA Player of the Week.
-Sophomore Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) leads the Saints with 14 points, 13 of them on assists.
-Four other Saints have 10 points or more this season, including senior Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) with 13, sophomores Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) and Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) each have 12, and junior Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) has 10.
-Golka leads the Saints with eight goals. Golka has scored five goals in the last five games.
-The Saints power play currently sits as the nation's 13th best at 25.4 percent.
-The Saints have scored first in all, but one game.
-St. Scholastica is 5-1-1 at Mars Lakeview Arena this season, and own a 23-3-1 record there since the 2016-2017 season.
 
What You Need to Know about Northland:
Record: 4-6-2, 2-2-2 NCHA
-Northland comes into 2019 sitting at fourth in the North Division.
-The Jacks are 4-2-1 at the Bay View Civic Center this year. On the road they are winless at 0-4-1.
-Junior Kalib Ford leads the team with 12 points and eight assists.
-Lucas DeBenedet and Cole Woodliffe lead the team with five goals.
-Senior David Krejcik has played majority minutes in net with a 4-5-2 record. He has a 3.00 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
-The Jacks are 1-8-1 when behind in any period.
-Northland has a negative net rating in shots for every period this season.

Series History: The Saints have dominated this series since the beginning of the series in 1999. The Saints started out with a 15-game winning streak. Northland's wins in the series have come in the last eight meetings. The Saints currently own a four-game win streak.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints continue their final stretch of 12 straight NCHA games to finish their season. Games three and four will come on the road against Concordia University Wisconsin and Milwaukee School of Engineering next weekend.
