Skiers Compete in Classic Distance Races at US Championships

WOMEN'S RESULTS | MEN'S RESULTS

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. (csssaints.com) – Eight St. Scholastica nordic skiers began competition on Thursday at the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships in Vermont. Thursday's races featured the individual start classic events. The women went 10km, while the men went 15km.
 
Women
Junior Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) led the Saints for the third time this season, finishing in 37:20 and 123rd overall. Gilman was eighth, among Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) skiers in the field. Sophomore Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) was 162nd overall with a time of 38:37. Benzing was 10th among CCSA skiers.
 
Freshman Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) and sophomore Cecelia Boyle (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) were 184th and 187th, respectively. Kraftson's time was 39:08, while Boyle finished in 39:15. Kraftson and Boyle were 11th and 12th among CCSA skiers.
 
Nicole Schneider of Northern Michigan University led all CCSA skiers with a 40th place finish in a time of 34:09
 
Men
Freshman Nick Matelich (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman HS (Montana State)) led the Saints 47:39 and was 112th overall. Sophomore Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) was 121st overall with a time of 47:55. Matelich was 12th and Mische-Richter 13th among CCSA skiers.
 
Junior Jack Christianson (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) was 153rd overall in a time of 48:53. Christianson was 14th among CCSA skiers. The final Saint competing was Gus Schatzlein (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) in 174th with a time of 49:31. Schatzlein was 18th among CCSA skiers.
 
Zak Ketterson of Northern Michigan led all CCSA skiers with an eighth-place finish in a time of 42:57.
