DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team surrendered three goals in each of the first two periods in an 8-2 loss to Lawrence University (Wis.) Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Vikings (5-14-1, 3-9-1 NCHA) scored their first of the contest just over two minutes into the game. They later added a power-play goal and another even-strength goal in the final seven minutes of the first period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Saints looked to find some momentum in the second period as they would out-shoot the Vikings 18-8 in the period. CSS got on the board less than a minute into the period with a
Mike Nolan (Aldergrove, British Columbia/Yale Secondary (Fresno-WSHL)) goal.
Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) and
Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) had the assists.
However, the Vikings responded 29 seconds later to put the margin back at three goals. Lawrence added two more goals in the first 11 minutes to make it 6-1 at the second intermission.
After the Vikings scored short-handed in the third,
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) scored for the Saints to make it 7-2. But it was the Vikings answering quickly again, just 16 seconds later, to make the final 8-2.
Goaltending
The Saints used all three goaltenders in the defeat.
Forbes Ploszaj (Scottsdale, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)) earned the loss with the start. Evan Cline made 47 saves to pick up the win for the Vikings.
