Women’s Basketball Hosts Strong BLC Squad Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team is back at the Reif Gymnasium on Saturday to host Bethany Lutheran College in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-Saturday's matchup begins the second half of the conference season with the Saints sitting in fifth place, a game behind the University of Northwestern (Minn.) and a game ahead of North Central University (Minn.).
-CSS is coming off its second straight win, defeating Northland College on Wednesday by a 15-point margin.
-Senior Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) led the way with a season-high 24 points.
-Walther needs just 27 points to become the 13th-player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points.
-Senior Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) has recorded at least 10 rebounds in four of the last five games and recorded her first double-double of the season Wednesday.
-Cieluch is averaging a career-best 7.3 rebounds per game and ranks second in the league with 8.4 rebounds per game in conference play.
-Cieluch leads the UMAC, averaging 2.3 blocked shots per game.
-Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) led the Saints in the first meeting against Bethany earlier this season in Mankato with 14 points.
-The Saints rank second in the conference, allowing teams to shoot just 30 percent from beyond the arc.
 
What You Need to Know about BLC:
Overall Record: 13-4, 7-1 UMAC
-The Vikings' lone conference loss during the first half was a nine-point defeat at the University of Minnesota Morris.
-The most notable win was a 12-point victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior, which ended UWS' 53-game UMAC win streak.
-BLC is tied with Morris and UWS for first place in the league. (UWS and Morris play each other Saturday)
-After losing three in a row around the first of the year, the Vikings will enter Saturday on a three-game win streak.
-Bethany leads the conference in scoring offense (73.8 points/game) and rebounds per game (41.1).
-BLC leads NCAA Division III with 320 free throws made and rank 26th nationally making 74 percent of its free throws.
-Haley Sandin ranks third in the country with 114 made free throws.
-Sandin also leads the UMAC with 54 steals and ranks third in the league, averaging 16.6 points per game.
-Abby Olson is the conference's leading scorer at 19.7 per game.
-Olson averages a UMAC-leading 2.7, 3-point field goals per game.
-In league play, BLC has a conference-best +6.63 turnover margin.

Series History: The Vikings have won three straight in the series and six of the last seven … The lone CSS win during that span took place at The Reif towards the end of the 2016-17 season … The Saints are 10-4 all-time at home against the Vikings.
