How it Happened
Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) gave the Saints a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at the nine-minute mark.
Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) and
Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) had the assists. Less than four minutes later,
Jon Hansen (Twig, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) extended the margin to 2-0 with assists from
Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) and
Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)).
CSS would be called for a penalty 20 seconds following the goal and the Raiders (6-8-3, 4-4-2 NCHA) took advantage to make it 2-1 at the first intermission.
The wheels would come off for the Saints in the opening six minutes of the second period. MSOE tied the game at 2-2 over four minutes into the period. The Raiders then took the lead 44 seconds later and extended the lead to 4-2 one minute and 12 seconds after that as the Saints were quickly down two goals. MSOE had just nine shots on goal in the period, but scored three times.
The Raiders made the score 5-2 less than a minute into the third period. The Saints got one goal back with over 11 minutes remaining on a
Seth Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's (Minnesota Iron Rangers-SIJHL)) tally.
Karl Wright (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (Connecticut Nighthawks-USPHL)) and
Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) had the assists. However, the Raiders added an empty-netter late to make the final 6-3.
