ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – After both teams scored over 50 points in the first half, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team limited Crown College to 26 points in the second half to win going away 96-79 on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
How it Happened
Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) connected on three, 3-pointers in the first five minutes as the Saints led 16-10. CSS held the lead for the most part of the next 10 minutes. The Storm (9-6, 4-3 UMAC) would go on a 17-3 run over a three-minute span to take an eight-point lead.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) quickly tied the game at 50-50 with a minute remaining in the half. Crown would then connect on a 3-pointer in the waning moments of the first half to take a 53-52 lead into the locker room.
Both teams shot over 54 percent from the floor in the half and combined for 18, 3-pointers. It also marked the first known time both the Saints and their opponents scored at least 50 points in a first half.
St. Scholastica opened the second half scoring the first six points. CSS led 64-62 four minutes into the second half. After that point, the Saints scored score 24 of the next 26 points over a seven-minute span to take a 24-point lead with nine minutes to go.
The Saints went on to win by a final of 96-79.

Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) led the Saints with 22 points. He also had a team-high eight assists.
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) finished with 18 points, including 13 in the second half. Thompson and Anderson each finished with 12 points and
Connor Gray (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) added 10 points.
Zach Sjoblad (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds.
Top Performances for Crown
Gunnar Ledin led the Storm with a game-high 23 points. Josh Volness added 16 points. Conference leading scorer Timothy Wendel finished with just nine points.
